Cultivating Happiness

Some day’s life and our emotions can just take over. We may have experienced sadness that can rock us to the core. Or the day that has no joy with no explanation as to why?

It’s ok to have these feelings, but let’s look at how we can turn these feelings around and cultivate a daily practise of happiness.

Research by Dr. Todd Kashdan revealed “gratitude was one of the three elements essential for creating happiness and meaning in life. The other two ingredients include meaningful relationships and living in the present moment.”

A gratitude journal can help us realise all the things we are thankful for. Being grateful helps us focus on what we have, rather than what we don’t.

Try this exercise called The Three Blessings:
Before you go to bed each night for one week, write down three good things that happened during the day. At the end of the week, revise the list and see if you are feeling any more joy.

Find supportive people and surround yourself with those that make you feel amazing. There is no time in life for toxic relationships and people that bring you down. Your friends and family should build you up!

Other tips that I find helpful:
1) Playing music that makes you get up and dance.
2) Find a physical activity that brings you joy.
3) Take up a new hobby.
