Start Simply

When most of us are starting out on a new health plan, we feel that we need to change everything. Cut out sugar, coffee, alcohol, sweets, all in one go. Although these plans are good, it is often very hard to maintain, and we beat ourselves up if we can’t commit to this way of eating.

Instead, I like to take a simpler start, by just changing one thing a week. Maybe drinking more water, eating brown rice instead of white, take an exercise class, practise cooking or having a piece of fruit instead of a cookie.

By doing this, you will start to crowd out the food or habit that is stopping you from reaching and maintaining your health goals.

So this week don’t tackle the whole staircase, just climb one step.

And remember to be kind to yourself!

  1. Hi Heidi, I think you’re very right – simplicity is the key! We’re often super busy trying to keep all our balls in the air at the same time when really we don’t need to. By focusing on one thing we’re more likely to succeed! Great posts – looking forward to your next one!

  2. Thanks Nicola, so happy you like my post. You are so right about keeping it simple and focusing on one thing. That’s why I love the quote “you don’t have to see the whole stair case, just take the first step.” Martin Luther King, Jr
